The River That Remembers

The River That Remembers

The field trip bus stopped near a river that should have been beautiful. Instead, foam gathered at the edges and plastic tangled in the reeds. "It used to sparkle," their guide said softly. "Rivers remember kindness too."

The children pulled on gloves and filled bags with trash, singing nasheeds between bends. Nadia found a toy boat and said, "Maybe someone loved this once." They recycled what they could and left the rest properly sorted.

They planted small willows on the bank with permission from the town council. The guide explained how roots hold soil and give fish shade. Everyone said Bismillah over the first sapling.

Months later, photos showed clearer water and a heron standing on one leg like a thoughtful scholar. The class clapped in the science room. Nadia whispered, "The river remembered."

The children promised to keep watch, not once, but always. They learned that the earth remembers every harm and every healing. A river that remembers kindness can sing again, if believers lend their hands.
