Midnight at the Hospital

Midnight at the Hospital

Rayyan tiptoed through the hospital corridor with his uncle, carrying a small gift for the new baby. The lights were soft, and the night felt hushed like a held breath. Most visitors had gone home.

Near the vending machines, Uncle Samir the cleaner unfolded a prayer mat. He washed at the sink with careful steps, then stood to pray with still shoulders. Rayyan watched from a bench, curious and calm.

When he finished, Uncle Samir smiled at Rayyan. "Prayer is my break and my strength," he said quietly. "Allah is with us in hospitals and homes alike." Rayyan nodded, thinking of his own Fajr sometimes rushed in pajamas.

They peeked at the sleeping baby, pink and peaceful. Rayyan whispered a dua he had learned for protection. His aunt squeezed his hand. "Your prayer counts too," she said.

Walking out, Rayyan looked back at Uncle Samir polishing the floor with gentle care. He learned that midnight can be holy without drama. Sometimes it is simply a man cleaning halls and remembering Allah while the world sleeps.
